Its that time of year again, when we are getting ready for Christmas, family and Santa. Sadly not everyone will be looking forward with anticipation, instead simple hoping for food, warmth or a small present. Thankfully there are goups like 'Little Blue Heroes' and 'Barnados' out there. Both help the youngest and most vulnerable in society and this Christmas we ask that you join us in making a donation at https://www.littleblueheroes.org/donate/ or https://www.barnardos.ie/christmas

and no long sleeve shirt. Whats that all about? Were only issued 2 short sleeves to cover 6 days underneath body armour?

And whats with the public consultation? Its operational uniform, what the public think about its appearance means fuck all.

This shows exactly whats wrong with this organisation. An operational decision for the wellfair and of staff mixed with ability to perform our jobs is decided based on if the local grannies think it looks nice

I wear it in the winter too for that reason, but in the summer I usually wear a white under armour shirt.

Yea just saw the directive !

So don't wear the tie ( on the basis that it is too hot ) and you can leave the top button open but you now have to wear the issue t shirt underneath the shirt !!

Makes perfect dynamic sense :-)

I see a few members making reference to the high vis vest covers being imminent and mentioned in the directive that came out. Wasn't in the one i saw, but neither was any mention of wearing tie in court but they fixed that fairly quickly..... anyone hear anything?

Just back from lovely espana, where the policia wear a smart polo shirt with a hi-vis upper half.
How do they manage to do any policing?

They also have this wierd looking pointy shooty thing on their belt which doesnt seem to bother anyone whatsoever.

I'd rather just wear the tie than wear a tshirt under the shirt to be honest. The t-shirts are warm and heavy. Weren't they even sold to us as thermal t-shirts?

@scuba Yea, hi-vis covers for the vests are being sourced.

Lads were the t shirt for a few days then contact your rep or send up report over the t shirt. It is a step forward and better than wearing the damn thing

Yes.

Brilliant. Amazing that a directive can change so quickly. First draft said nothing about it.

I agree 100%. A huge step for the job. Even if only appears minor in nature.

Bit of a backlash against the no tie thing. Members giving out it looks unprofessional. Must admit, the shirts don't look right open collared without the vest. Public officers look messy.

It's progress lads, deal with it. If some people had their way yis woukd still be wearing tunics " cos it looks more professional". Ive seen people in battle fatigues look sharp as a knife and others in full dress uniform look like a bag of shite. Its down to the individual taking pride in their uniform, the wearing of a tie isnt going to change that. Proper supervision and peer pressure will. A tie has no function or place on a work uniform. Now go after decent footwear and trousers.
We trained hard ... but it seemed that every time we were beginning to form up into teams we would be reorganized. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganizing; and a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while producing confusion, inefficiency, and demoralization.

As someone who does their best not to wear the tie or have the top button done I'm delighted. The current shirt is styled to go with a tie so does nook odd. We need it changed.

Does anyone have a picture of the uniform that was trailed around 2002 with a baseball cap and polo shirt and combats? It had the blouson jacket too but in the end they went with the same shirt tie and slacks in 2005 with the blouson.
