Its that time of year again, when we are getting ready for Christmas, family and Santa. Sadly not everyone will be looking forward with anticipation, instead simple hoping for food, warmth or a small present. Thankfully there are goups like 'Little Blue Heroes' and 'Barnados' out there. Both help the youngest and most vulnerable in society and this Christmas we ask that you join us in making a donation at https://www.littleblueheroes.org/donate/ or https://www.barnardos.ie/christmas

hi guys, just joined this site on the advice of a friend in the ambulance side of things. I'm in band 2 of the recent recruitment drive. I was just wondering if I could get your opinions on what the college is like and if in yer opinion will band 2 be called up? Your all the guys and girls in the know so if you can share that with me I would be thrilled

Hi @gardaman welcome to the site.

The college will be as good as you make it.  It has options for all types of people.  If you want to keep teh head down and study thats there for you single rooms so you'll have all the privacy you need. If you want to stay as fit as you can the gym is excellent and free and theres some great runs for you to do down there.  If you want an active social life thats there also.  I loved my time in the college study wasnt my thing but fitness and socialising were so i got out of it what i put in.

As for band 2 they are going through numbers fairly quickly with many people deferring or failing parts.  If they do get to band 2 it will be a while away.  take any opportunity that comes in the meantime but if you really want the Garda life be prepared to go on short notice.

Hope it a works out for you

@Coach23, thanks for the welcome and the reply. Templemore would suit me down to the ground going by what you say, I like a flavor of all three you mentioned.

It's great to hear the numbers are moving through. I have one year left in my degree and plan, finances permitting, to sit the Bar exam so that will definitely take the chunk out of the time waiting. I have applied for the reserves ages ago. However, I have been waiting quite a while for my interview. I was told I am 67th in line to be interviewed when they are looking for a new intake.

Hopefully I'll get there, fingers crossed 16

interview is seperate day 19

You do up the report yourself, basically write down the important stuff on paper.
Names,Dates, Address's, E.T.C then turn it into a report on another page keep it short and simple.
Makes sure u get the details I missed out on loads so was not succesful

Day, date, time and place always.

Then cold hard facts. Who did what, when and how.

Finish with a recommendation (if required) based on provable facts only based solely on information provided.

Do not guess, do not presume and remember the person reading the report will only know what you tell them. Example, if Steve is a junkie you need to state that even if its obvious
Often the sheep do not like the sheepdog,  until the wolf comes.  Then the sheep try to hide behind the sheepdog, begging for his protection.

Use third person in report, i.e. Garda Jones wishes to report as follows: etc and as said earlier, keep to the point.and aboid waffle or conjecture. Good luck
