A barman came to a teenage woman’s rescue as she was allegedly attacked on the street during the early hours of Easter Monday morning.
The 18-year-old was rushed to hospital after suffering injuries to her face.
Gardai are investigating the alleged assault that took place in the centre of Listowel, Co Kerry.
A local barman who intervened in the incident has been described as “heroic”, by gardai in Kerry.
A Garda spokesman told The Kerryman newspaper: “His actions were quite heroic in rushing to the immediate aid of the young woman.”
The young woman was brought to University Hospital Kerry with bruising to her face, but her injuries were said to be minor.
Gardai continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward with any information.
A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “Gardaí are investigating an assault which occurred on Charles St, Listowel on the 2 April 2018 at approximately 2am
“An 18-year-old female was allegedly assaulted by a 19-year-old man.
“She received non life threatening injuries to her face and was taken to University Hospital Kerry.
“The man was arrested at scene and later released.”
