There are EMTs in the Gardai? Didn't kniow that. The last time i spoke to a Garda on the subject (was a good while ago) he said that the only medical training Gardai got was a day of basic first aid for use on themselves or other Gardai. Good to see the training has come up.

Anyone over basic occupational first aid, have privately earned qualifications, i know a guy who's done up to EMT with the Red Cross before joining.

Firstly EMT grade is given to specialised units, trained by NASC in Dublin. ERU, NSU are some. NBCI/RSU get Emergency First Responder.

Secondly......Irish Red Cross only got EMT status this year....someone is telling you porkies.

There are a number of Garda EMTs recognised by the job and as forgein said we had them made up ourselves......as with all Garda patches. ERU are the only ones with official issue patches. GASU, GWU and GDU all got their own made.

NBCI work closely with the other uniys named above, their are also units who spend as much time on the road as in offices such as the stolen car unit.
