Assaults on Emergency Services - Part 2
Well he said it himself "It will be worth the charge." He's basically just said he knew he wouldn't be given a punishment that would deter him from committing the offence so he did it.

The judge, even with this information, lo and behold gives a paltry sentence. 8 months that will be reduced to 6 months with the usual remission and then there's the likelihood that he'll get out earlier on temporary release due to overcrowding.

"Worth the charge" indeed.

Sure he was going away for the other charges anyway so he knew it was a free shot. Thats what its come to now, gougers know if they are getting a sentence they may as well get a free shot in on the way because they will all run together.

But hey, as long as he didnt move the CCTV cameras beforehand its ok cause thats the one that deserves a few years  116

The judiciary don't give a feck here. My colleague and I were assaulted a couple of months ago and they got the probation act.

Another attack on Gardaí. We seriously need to get the courts punishing people properly.

Quote:Gardai attacked in estate after stolen car chase
A garda patrol unit was attacked with bricks and bottles after being ambushed by a large mob in a west Dublin housing estate.
The incident happened in the Cherry Orchard area of Ballyfermot on Saturday evening as the officers pursued a stolen vehicle.
Gardai chased the silver Mercedes after seeing it speeding along Cherry Orchard Avenue at around 11.50pm.
As the car continued to speed through the estate, a large group began to gather nearby.
The stolen Mercedes then turned into a cul-de-sac where the group proceeded to block off the road with a number of large pallets.
The mob then ambushed the patrol car, which had become trapped in the estate, launching a number of missiles, including bricks and glass bottles.
A substantial amount of damage was caused to the garda car, including a smashed rear window, although neither of the officers were injured during the incident.
Gardai eventually managed to retreat from the scene and subsequently seized the stolen Mercedes, which had been abandoned nearby.
No arrests have yet been made in relation to the incident and Ballyfermot gardai are investigating.
It is the most recent in a number of serious attacks on gardai in the area, with a source describing how the situation was becoming increasingly dangerous.
"The situation in that particular area is becoming quite desperate. Gardai have been warned to exercise extreme caution when entering certain areas and this is another example of why these warnings are issued," the source said.
Assaulted
"The Halloween season is coming up and the area has a history of gardai being attacked around that time. We've had individual members of the gardai being assaulted as well as patrol cars being rammed, and it simply isn't acceptable."
A group of youths and young men led by an associate of one of Dublin's most notorious crime bosses are believed to be behind the attacks on gardai.
The chronic alcoholic and drug addict has previous convictions for offences such as drug dealing, attempted burglary, unlawful carriage, property damage and seriously assaulting a man with three others.
As well as being suspected of orchestrating a series of violent attacks on gardai, the group is also believed to be behind a spate of car thefts.
Earlier this month two gardai were hospitalised, with one requiring facial surgery, after being assaulted at an estate in a Ballyfermot area.
The officers attempted to detain an off-road motorbike from a group of youths, but came under attack as they tried to carry out the seizure.
One garda had their nose broken, while the other suffered a broken jaw in the incident, which is unrelated to the Cherry Orchard attacks.
Meanwhile, on Friday night, a car led at least ten garda units on a high-speed pursuit through west Dublin after failing to stop when signalled to do so.
Officers attempted to stop the suspicious vehicle at aproximately 11.50pm in the Ballyfermot area, but the driver sped away.

At one stage 10 units from several districts responded to the incident and the car was eventually found abandoned in the Abbeywood Crescent estate of Lucan.

Man charged after garda is stabbed in Athlone

A man has been charged with theft and assault after a garda was stabbed in Athlone yesterday evening.

The garda received stab wounds to his arm and hands in the assault, which followed an incident on the Dublin to Galway train during which a handbag was reportedly stolen from a woman.

It is understood that the man, who is from the Athlone area and is in his 20s, had been released on bail from a court in Dublin earlier in the day.

Gardai were called after the woman raised the alarm and a detective, aged in his 40s, then approached the man not far from the train station.

The individual produced a knife and slashed the detective on his left arm and on both of his hands.

The garda was taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe where was treated. He was discharged last night.

The man is due to appear before Athlone District Court tomorrow and is being held at Athlone Garda Station overnight.

A GARDA suffered back and neck injuries when a patrol car was rammed in Waterford by a gang fleeing at high speed from a spate of rural burglaries.

The incident occurred shortly before 10pm last night when Gardaí were responding to reports of a series of burglaries along the Waterford-Cork border.

It is understood a car containing three people was driving at high speed near Lismore in west Waterford when a marked garda patrol car was struck.

It is suspected that the patrol car was deliberately rammed by the gang as they attempted to evade being stopped.

The vehicle involved was a high-powered saloon car.

The garda suffered non-life threatening injuries in the impact.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for assessment.

The garda, understood to be in his 30s, was being treated for suspected neck and back injuries.

He is expected to be kept in hospital for observation.

The gang managed to flee the area.

A number of break-ins in the Lismore, Tallow and Fermoy areas are believed to be linked to the gang.

It is the third time in the past month that a vehicle linked to burglaries in the Cork-Waterford-Tipperary area has fled form gardaí at high speed.
