Its that time of year again, when we are getting ready for Christmas, family and Santa. Sadly not everyone will be looking forward with anticipation, instead simple hoping for food, warmth or a small present. Thankfully there are goups like 'Little Blue Heroes' and 'Barnados' out there. Both help the youngest and most vulnerable in society and this Christmas we ask that you join us in making a donation at https://www.littleblueheroes.org/donate/ or https://www.barnardos.ie/christmas

'Cannabis grinder' caused Mountjoy prison lockdown
#1
Quote:Gardaí have said material discovered in Mountjoy jail that led to a lockdown is not firearm-related, but is believed to be a cannabis grinder.

The Irish Prison Service confirmed in a statement that a suspicious item was discovered on the C wing of Mountjoy Prison at approximately 12.30pm today.

Following an initial examination by prison staff and responding gardaí, it was suspected that the item may be part of a firearm containing a number of bullets, the statement said.

As a result, appropriate action was taken by the prison's governor and a general search of the prison was commenced.

The item was removed by An Garda Siochána for forensic examination. Gardaí have subsequently determined that the item is not part of a weapon as was initially suspected, the statement added.

The Prison Service has defended its decision to lock down the prison.

Other media outlets are saying it was believed to be a revolver and ammunition so I'm guessing it was something similar to one of these:

Bit embarrassing but in fairness when it was found it would be normal not to examine it too much considering forensic opportunities.

If it had been kept in house it wouldn't be a story.

In fairness you could see how it happened, i'd a thought people grinding cannabis would want something not likely to bring extra attention on themselves though?
